"I have set The Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved."
The verse for today comes from the Psalms and is a testimony from David. At this point in David's life, Saul was still King of Israel and was seeking to have David killed. David had fled and was in hiding, in fear for his life. Saul, accompanied by 3000 men went out in hunt for David. David in hiding, had only 400 men with him, but David had a force bigger on his side and that was The Lord. God was with David at every turn and as David acknowledged, was at his right hand. The Lord's devotion to David was very deep. David also was as equally devoted & was very firm in his resolve to maintain his devotion. David had no inheritance at this point in his life. Instead he counted the Lord as his inheritance knowing that one day he would inherit the kingdom of God. His suffering was for a moment as eventually David became King of Israel after the murder of Saul's successor, Ishbosheth. Following the murder of Ishbosheth the prophet and judge, Samuel was asked to appoint a king and David was selected. In the end, all of God's promises to David was delivered.
Today we still can hold this as a fact and a promise. Because no matter what we have before us, as long as we trust and focus on the Lord He will be there. Like David, we should also be firm in our resolve to nurture a faith rooted deeply in the Lord. Like a line from a hymn I heard as a child says, "anchored in Jehovah, I shall not be moved". Also too keep in mind that whatever promises the Lord has made to us will be fulfilled. We have the promise of a heavenly "inheritance" and glory. Until that day when His promise is fulfilled, The Lord will always be our constant and our God.
