John 15:13
There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends.
~Jphn 15:13~
Today is Valentine's Day and though it's a holiday universally known for being a special day for couples and those who are in love and in a committed relationship. As someone who truly loves her God my thoughts are that true perfect love in it's most basic form exists from Jesus our Lord Savior and God.
At John 15:13 we read no greater love exists than to lay down your life for your friends. When you think of it, that's an amazing type of love to have for someone. Though we don't as sinful humans deserve such a sacrifice from God, He willingly offered up all. Which is such an amazing gift and given so freely to all..sinners, evil doers, believers...everyone.
As believers all He asks of us is to simply trust Him, love Him and love others as He too loves them (John 15:12). To also live by His Word submitting all to Him.(Matthew 4:4;James 4:7)
How great and merciful is our God that He would love us with such great and powerful a love! By His ransom sacrifice we are reconciled back to God (2 Corinthians 5)Plus by giving our lives to Him we are now His as well!
The word reconcile means to restore friendly relations between two or more. Also to cause to coexist in harmony; make or show to be compatible. Prior to the ransom sacrifice we were alienated from God as a result of the sin of Adam (Romans 5:12)with the end result being both spiritual and physical death. But through the love of Christ those bonds have been released and we are no longer under it. Through Christ's sacrifice, we are now reconciled back to God. Through Christ's sacrifice there is spiritual LIFE.
In Colossians 1:21-23 we read: "Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. "
Which says a lot about the gift that Christ gave us and gave us freely. An amazing and powerful love that reunites us back to God. That brings us LIFE and HOPE and even JOY. Which for me would trump flowers and candy any day of the week.
On this day as we celebrate love let's all strive to take a moment to reflect on that greater love and it's power in our lives. Jesus truly loves each of us and through that love daily we are blessed as we stay in harmony with the Holy Spirit and with Him.
What a truly remarkable love God has for us ...will you in turn love Him just as much as He loves you? My answer is YES! I will each day strive to love Him just as much!
