1 Timothy 4:12

Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
~1 Timothy 4:12~

Jesus once said at Matthew 19:14: "Let the children come to me, and don't try to stop them! People who are like these children belong to God's kingdom." (Contemporary English Version ~ CEV)

Throughout my years of being a believer I have found that kids are so awesome when it comes to their faith and how they relate to The Lord. I once taught a Primary Class and taught the sharing time music and simple lessons. I recall there was this one child, a young boy; who always enjoyed the music part of it. Every week he would say "Sister Porter, teach us the fire song! I want to sing the fire song!" Inevitably I would add that to the lesson at the end and it never failed he would be the one that would sing it the loudest!

Kids have such an endearing faith as they have already within themselves a natural trust and belief in the Lord. Being kids, they aren't already jaded and broken down by the world around them nor do they question God. They just believe and possess a simple faith. When you take time to really talk to kids about God the responses often possess a lot of wisdom.

We read at Matthew 18:1-5: "About this time the disciples came to Jesus and asked him who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus called a child over and had the child stand near him. Then he said: I promise you this. If you don't change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. But if you are as humble as this child, you are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And when you welcome one of these children because of me, you welcome me. "

Just because you're young doesn't mean you can't minister effectively and share your love of Christ with others. I came across this testimony found at All About God and I will post just a sample of it. It comes from a 12 year old middle school child speaking at her school. Please do check out the rest of this on the website as it's great and possesses a lot of wisdom:

"Hello fellow middle school and high school students. I'm here just to express a couple things that may be happening to many of us today. I know that I'm only twelve, but I really hope that I can help some of you know and come closer to Christ. I first met Jesus when I was five years old. At that time, I just thought, "Oh yeah! If I go to church every Sunday, and believe that He's real, I'll go to heaven!" But that's not how it works. God did not put us on this earth to do "stuff" and be "perfect," no, instead, we're here to make a choice, and learn to love our Creator and Father in heaven through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. We don't have to work at anything or worry about anything - we just need to receive Jesus and rest in what He has planned for our lives. "

When I read this example of a 12 year old and her ministering I can't help but think of another 12 year old ministering as well. His ministering can be found at Luke 2: 41-49

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it.

Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?

Another exemplar of a youth with great faith who did awesome things was King David who was a teenager when called by God to be King in waiting. When he was around 17 he faced the giant Goliath and was victorious. God used this young man for great stuff and he eventually became a great king.

In closing the Scriptures all show that kids are examples of how we, no matter what age we are, should imitate faith wise in our lives. They possess a true faith and humility that is pleasing to God. In the end it is a little child that will lead us all.

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
